What is Epoxy Crack Injection?

As the name implies, crack injection is a solution employed as a means to address cracks on concrete surfaces as well as other surfaces where these surface damages can occur. This is especially a concern in California where the North American Plate collides with the Pacific Plate forming the roughly 750-mile San Andreas Fault. The movement of these plates can also create shearing forces that can rip apart even the strongest concrete mixture. As such, cracks are bound to happen especially in concrete structures.

When cracks occur, the integrity of the structure is already weakened. The larger the gap between surfaces, the greater the loss in structural integrity. You can make it stronger by demolishing the existing structure and replacing it with a new one. But that entails a lot of money, not to mention significant disruptions in your everyday life or, if this is a business enterprise, in your everyday operations. Crack injections allow you to manage such structural issues without tearing down your entire building and shelling out a massive amount of money.

Fresno Epoxy Crack Injection

There are two types of crack injections used on many surfaces today. Our epoxy crack injections are designed primarily for structural cracks. Epoxy resins are similar to glue. However, when these resins dry and cure, their strength is sufficiently greater than that of the concrete itself. What you are essentially filling these cracks with are super-tough, super-strong materials that will hold together the two opposing edges of the structure. It is harder and stronger than concrete so it makes the perfect solution for structural cracks.

How Is It Performed?

At Extreme Industrial Coatings, we make sure that the application of epoxy crack injections is done in a very methodical manner. This is to ensure that you get the structural strength that you are looking for in addressing cracks in your home or even building.

First, we’ll install crack injection ports to eliminate any need for drilling into your concrete. This also helps speed up the whole process while minimizing if not entirely eliminating the need for massive cleanup thereafter. Once this has been accomplished, we’ll be sealing the surface with our own epoxy adhesives. It will take only half an hour to let this epoxy coating cure. Only the exposed holes of the injection ports will not be filled up with our epoxy adhesive.

Once cured, we can start injecting epoxy into the ports, looking for signs that tell us the cracks have all been completely filled with epoxy. We perform a variety of on-going assessments to make sure that every possible crack has been filled with the right amounts of epoxy to help ensure greater strength in your structure. Within 24 to 48 hours, we can start removing the injection ports and finished the surface accordingly to give you something more aesthetically pleasing to look at.
